Midland's free disposal programs stop at the city line. For county addresses, the choices narrow to a landfill run during gate hours — or a crew that comes to you.

What Stops at the City Line

Midland's disposal safety net is real, but every strand of it is tied to City service. The free furniture and appliance pickup is for the City's residential customers and collects from the alley right-of-way on City routes. The Citizens Collection Station and Citizens Convenience Center are for the exclusive use of City of Midland residents hauling from their own single-family homes.

A Greenwood, Gardendale, or unincorporated county address has none of that by default — no City route, no alley container, no free station lane. Household trash runs on whatever private arrangement the property has, and bulky items have exactly two honest paths: haul them yourself, or hire the hauling.

The DIY Path: A Landfill Run from the County

The City of Midland Landfill at 7901 E. Garden City Highway takes loads from beyond the city line — the gate rules are about the vehicle and the payment, not the address on your water bill. Plan around three published facts:

• Gate hours: Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sunday
• An unpermitted vehicle pays a $25 Landfill Access Fee on top of the regular disposal charges

Securing the Load Is Not Optional

County disposal runs mean real distance at highway speed — down FM 1379 or Highway 349, then across town on the loop. A mattress that leaves the truck bed on that drive is litter the moment it lands, and Texas law grades unlawful disposal by weight, reaching felony territory at 1,000 pounds. Even the free-station rules inside the city insist that loads be secured; take the hint for the highway.

Straps, a tarp over loose loads, and nothing stacked above the bed rails is the whole discipline. It is the difference between a disposal run and an involuntary donation to the right-of-way.

The Hired Path: One Truck to the Door

The alternative is bringing the disposal system to the property. A junk removal service that covers the county rolls the landfill fees, the loading labor, the securing, and the drive into one visit — the same residential junk removal work done in town, just with more gravel on the way in.

For county properties the crew model has a quiet advantage: volume. Choosing Between Them

The county calculus is the city calculus with longer distances and no free lane. One secured load, an open Saturday, and a truck you already own: the DIY run wins, access fee and all. County cleanouts cluster after the same events everywhere — a spring windstorm, a shop reorganization, a property changing hands — and the landfill's single Saturday window is at its busiest exactly then. Either way, the load ends at an approved site — which, out here, is the entire point.
